Global News Special: International Womens Day
It’s the 100th anniversary of World Women’s Day tomorrow! What are your plans? Here are lots of great ideas on how you can get involved:
o The International Women’s Day website has a great selection of events. Just select your country and a whole list of events will appear!
o The UN Women’s theme for this year is: Equal Access to Education, Training and Science and Technology: Pathway to Decent Work for Women. They’ve planned events globally to commemorate this day- lots of it focusing on girls and young women from youth workshops to ‘Girls Talk’. Find out what’s being planned near you.
o Join women on the bridge. All around the world, people will be going onto their local bridges to show their support for empowering women. Find out how you can get involved.

Empower the girl, empower the women- ‘Women in Law and Development in Africa (WILDAF) teach agriculture techniques to girls so that they know how to grow food and package it in a way that all countries accept it.

Goal Partner Summit
On 31 January, we were proud to kick off our very first Goal Partner Summit. This summary is long overdue, but we wanted to take the time to share this with you as it was a really incredible moment for the programme – and amazing to see how far we’ve come.
Our NGO partners from every Goal country – Naz Foundation in India, YEF in Nigeria, and Right to Play from Jordan and China – as well as Standard Chartered Volunteer Coordinators, met in New Delhi, India for a week of sharing experiencesand promising practices, problem solving challenges, hearing from experts in key topics like communications, economic empowerment, incorporating men and boys into a girl-focused programme, and human resources, and of course visiting the Goal sites.
Our summit was held at the illustrious Taj Palace hotel, where we were met with excellent service the entire way through. I think we may have even got some of the catering staff to agree to volunteer.
Highlights included:
Each country presenting, in detail, their model and challenges – led to great discussions about scale.
Laura Quinn, our exceptional supporter from Wieden and Kennedy in New Delhi, teaching us about blogging
The Right to Play team demonstrating some of their activities – it was nice to stretch our legs after so much time in the conference room
Mamta (at left), a Goal Champion, taking us through a health and hygiene activity
Kalyani showing us how to play netball in a sari
And of course, interacting with the girls – the best part of any trip!
While fun was definitely part of the agenda, it was really amazing to have all the partners under one roof. Goal is very lucky to have such a core group of NGOs delivering our programme and helping us empower girls around the world.
